Frosted Chocolate Cake

Name: Frosted Chocolate Cake
Variation: n/a
Manufacturer: Post

Review: Although I'm not really a fan of shredded wheat, this new cereal from Post grabbed my attention with its reference to Frosted Chocolate Cake. The back of the box mentions "decadence" more than once, which is promising - but I still have my doubts. The whole aesthetic of the cereal has a nice black-and-white look, that goes really well with my bowl. The biscuits smell cocoa-y, and have a good, chocolatey flavor. Occasionally, you'll get a bite of real chocolate chips.

All of this is good, but it doesn't disguise what the cereal is. All the different varieties of Frosted Mini-Wheats I've tried so far have had good flavors, but I could never get past the drudgery of eating shredded wheat. This cereal is honestly as good as any of them, but it still has the taste and texture of shredded wheat. Given the high sugar content, what's the advantage of eating it over something better-tasting, like Chocolatey Chocolate Lucky Charms? Unless you have a fiber deficiency, it beats me.

Leftover Milk: Some chocolate flavor, at least.

Frosted Mini Wheats Strawberry

Name: Frosted Mini Wheats Strawberry
Variation: Frosted Mini Wheats
Manufacturer: Kellogg's

Review: I'll tell you straight out, I don't have much to say about this cereal. As has been set by precedent, this is another example of Frosted Mini Wheats having a good added flavor, but me not being able to get past the shredded wheat. In this case, the flavor is strawberry (although the box says "juicy", I think it's more creamy). There are no surprises here - you know what you're getting, and you probably have a good idea whether you'll like it or not. As for me, I'll pass.

Rating: 🥣
Leftover Milk: Slightly strawberry, mostly wheaty.

Frosted Mini Wheats Little Bites (Original & Chocolate)

Name: Frosted Mini Wheats Little Bites Original
Variation: Frosted Mini Wheats
Manufacturer: Kellogg's

Review: I think it's safe to assume that this cereal is going to taste just like regular Frosted Mini Wheats (which you shouldn't be surprised to learn that I don't like). The point of this review, then, will be to determine how I feel about the smaller size of the biscuits (as well as lay a groundwork for me to review the chocolate version of Little Bites, which is what I really wanted to do).

I don't have a lot of experience eating Frosted Mini Wheats, so when I see the size of these biscuits, to me they look like pretty standard size cereal biscuits. So I think that maybe regular Frosted Mini Wheats are just too big. As far as fitting them in your mouth, I think these Little Bites are an improvement. Unfortunately, it's still Frosted Mini Wheats, so I can't say that I like it. I mean, the frosting is actually good, but it's not worth eating shredded wheat when there are other frosted cereals on the market.

Rating: 🥣
Leftover Milk: Plain and wheat-y.

Name: Frosted Mini Wheats Little Bites Chocolate
Variation: Frosted Mini Wheats
Manufacturer: Kellogg's

Review: If ever there will be a version of Frosted Mini Wheats that I rate higher than one bowl, I imagine it would be this one. That's what I'm thinking going in to this. It's do or die.

The chocolate and frosting looks pleasant. Almost like a dusting of snow on the ground. But it's still just a flavor covering up a base of shredded wheat. I like the flavor - as I have with pretty much every variety of Frosted Mini Wheats I've tried so far. But I don't like the shredded wheat. And I haven't tried a flavor yet that I liked so much it was worth eating shredded wheat for, especially when you can get those flavors (even things like Cinnamon Roll and Pumpkin Pie Spice) in other cereals. Chocolate is certainly no exception.

If I were being forced under duress to eat Frosted Mini Wheats, this is probably the flavor I would prefer to have. But it's not an experience I would initiate voluntarily. Even Chocolate Frosted Flakes is better than this cereal - and that cereal has the benefit of actually turning the milk chocolate.

Leftover Milk: not as wheat-y as other flavors of this cereal, but still very plain.

Frosted Mini Wheats Pumpkin Pie Spice

Name: Frosted Mini Wheats Pumpkin Pie Spice
Variation: Frosted Mini Wheats
Manufacturer: Kellogg's

Review: 'Tis the season! The "pumpkin pie spice" flavor is pleasantly sweet. I feel like I could definitely appreciate this cereal - if it weren't being delivered in the form of Frosted Mini Wheats (which I am not fond of). Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that lovers of Frosted Mini Wheats have a pumpkin spice version of their cereal. It fits in well with other versions I've tried - like Blueberry Muffin and Cinnamon Roll. But personally, I'd rather have a bowl of Pumpkin Spice Cheerios instead.

Leftover Milk: Don't expect the sort of pumpkin spice milk Cheerios leaves you with.

Frosted Mini Wheats Golden Honey

Name: Frosted Mini Wheats Golden Honey
Variation: Frosted Mini Wheats
Manufacturer: Kellogg's

Review: On the plus side, I actually really like the honey flavor. But on the minus, these are still Frosted Mini Wheats, and the fact that I won't even eat a full bowl of them (after I took the picture, I poured three fourths of this bowl back into the box) means I can't in good conscience give this cereal anything higher than a one bowl rating. But I know one or two people who like Frosted Mini Wheats, so I imagine I'll keep reviewing their different flavors - which have been pretty consistently good so far (in my opinion); I just don't like the taste and texture of shredded wheat - and then passing the boxes along.

Rating: 🥣
Leftover Milk: I can't get past that dull, shredded wheat flavor.

Frosted Mini Wheats Blueberry Muffin & Cinnamon Roll

Name: Frosted Mini Wheats Blueberry Muffin & Cinnamon Roll
Variation: Frosted Mini Wheats
Manufacturer: Kellogg's

Review: We're going to the bakery for breakfast this morning! I've been trying out a lot of cereals I've never touched before thanks to this blog (e.g., Frosted Flakes, Rice Krispies, Apple Jacks, Cinnamon Toast Crunch) - for better and worse. Frosted Mini Wheats isn't a cereal that really appeals to me. It's probably better for you than the "candy-in-a-bowl" stuff I like, but I don't enjoy the fiber-y texture. That said, there were a couple of intriguing flavors on the shelves that I had to try. And I'm pretty impressed. Blueberry Muffin really has that hint of blueberry muffin flavor. Although Cinnamon Roll has a long way to go to match my enjoyment of the bakery treat. Reviewing a cereal like this is tough for me because I don't think it's a bad cereal, and I love the novelty element, but honestly I have no real desire to eat it again. But then, my comments are more important than the ratings anyway.

Rating: 🥣
Leftover Milk: Plain. Maybe a little fiber-y.
